A Neighbours dream come true

Yes, I have to admit I am a big fan of Neighbours. Like really, really big. Just ask anyone who knows me, Neighbours has been my favourite TV show for a really, really long time.  On the last day I spent in Melbourne (when I was there for there for the Finders Keepers market last month), I was lucky enough to have a visit organised to see the Neighbours set. While I was having a look around the set, I bumped into four of the cast of the show, who play Sonya, Sheila, Piper and David, which made my day (just look at the smile on my face - says it all!) While I was there, I also got to...

An Exciting Collaboration

From the very beginning I always knew I wanted to make sure that in business I gave back to others. Having cerebral palsy and knowing first hand how organisations such as the Ability Centre can help people like me, I knew that when possible I wanted to focus on how I could also help others. As you are probably aware (if you have checked out my story), since I started Daniel(ink.) two years ago, I have always donated 10% of profits from the sale of my tees to the Ability Centre (formerly known as the Centre for Cerebral Palsy), which is something I am super proud of and continue to do. I also have something else I am feeling pretty...

MENTORing

I have an arts mentor, Ant Muia. This year I was lucky to receive funding through DADA to help me continue to develop my art practise. Ant comes to see me at home or sometimes I go to his house studio or an exhibition with him. To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect, but what I’ve found is that we’ve developed a great relationship where I feel comfortable to explore different art practises, to learn from Ant, and to try things for myself. It’s definitely  not like having a teacher, Ant may guid me, but he let’s me develop my art by myself. We also do lots of talking, about all sorts of things. Art obviously, different...

Laughter

LOL Daniel(ink.) had a night out recently to see comedian Bill Bailey. Growing up, I always wanted to be a comedian and I’ve always enjoyed watching stand-up. Bill didn’t disappoint! He was so funny, we laughed a lot and it lifted my mood through the roof! We managed to give him a couple of Daniel(ink.) T-shirts and he signed one for us. Bill now joins my growing collection of comedians who have our T-shirts, which already includes Danny Bhoy, Adam Hills, Josh Thomas and Labby & Stav. You’ve got be happy with that! They’ve kept me laughing for years and I’m grateful they’ve been happy to show support for Daniel(ink.)   , too. After the Bill Bailey show, I wondered how comedy...

Arctic Monkeys

I went with my Dad to see Arctic Monkeys at Perth Arena. Dad and I gave management a parcel with a DanielInk tshirt to give lead singer Alex as a gift. Arctic Monkeys came on and their opening song was Do I Wanna Know from their new album. The lighting they set up on stage was awesome and I loved how they had the band name set up in lights. The Crowd was really buzzing. Every time Dad and I go to the Perth Arena we meet great people. It’s not all bad being in a wheelchair, people genuinely take time out to talk to you and know your story. I met a great girl from Darwin this time round....
